piano redux

Im pretty sure the piano in the cafeteria of BYUs student building is put there simply to annoy all of us studying. Everytime someone comes sits down and starts playing the theme from Titanic or a Ben Folds song but obviously with the polish of someone who hasn't played the piano since they moved away to college I wonder "why the lunchroom?" How cool do these people think they are? Are they really that free from inhibitions? Do they really think that celine dion transposed into a minor key and played uptempo is proving to the world that they are mozart in an unappreciated form? Or rather is this the artistic part of a soul who talked himself into an accounting or chemistry major pleading out to all of us to rescue them, crying without word but rather with the obnoxious plunking of badly transposed pop songs from the late 20th century. Oh travesty! Rescue these lost talentless artistic souls!

In honor of the guy sitting in the lunchroom playing the parts of the theme from FFVII he can remember... which isn't much. i wrote this on September 14, 2010

Burnt. Out.

Burnt. Out.

That is how I feel today. This is a state that is extremely hard for me to explain to others. Rachelle gets it, most other PhD students in my program get it. But heck, I wouldn't have gotten it a few years ago. I'm just glad this good but taxing year of school will end next week...
